Painted in the studio while remembering the oppressive July heat of the lotus ponds at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, just outside of Washington, D.C. In researching the lotus flower, I learned how the flowers are waxy and water resistant- they grow up through the mud and murky water, pure of blemish due to the waxy resistance.
