Expressive Landscapes
Painted in my studio in response to memories of a specific moment standing at the seawall and overlooking the ocean while in Key West, FL. This paper piece is un-matted and framed in a simple black frame.
At the seawall, a poem
Jessica McKinney-Land, 2023
I step up to the seawall
bend forward
and feel the spray
from the lapping waves
CRASH
recede
crash
recede
crash
recede
CRASH
crashing to a rhythm only the rocks
which create the shore
seem to understand.
Pinpricks of spray
on my arms and chin-
brine and mineral
carried on the breeze.
